English week: Contemporary History of the United States

During the English Week in 6th grade we have been studying the Contemporary History of the United States from the 60’s to the 90’s. As you can see in the photos, they have been doing projects about the Cold War, the Atomic Age, the Space Age and the Digital Age.
The students have also been learning the Contemporary Music of the United States from the 60’s to the 90’s. They have discovered that popular music of the United States in the 1960s became innately tied up into causes, opposing certain ideas, influenced by the feminism, Black Power and environmentalism. The mid-1970s saw the rise of disco music, which dominated during the last half of the decade with bands like the Bee Gees, Village People, Boney M, Donna Summer,  etc. The 1980s saw the emergence of pop, dance music and new wave. Popular music in the 1990s saw the continuation of teen pop and dance-pop trends which had emerged in the 1970s and 1980s.

In this pictures, you can see our 6th grade students singing songs from the 60’s to the 90’s, such as Surfin’ USA (The Beach Boys) WATCH VIDEO , ABC (The Jackson 5), I wanna dance with somebody (Whitney Houston) WATCH VIDEO and Everybody (Backstreet Boys) WATCH VIDEO
